Tectonic inversion of a passive margin : the case of the algerian margin
Keywords :
subduction inception, passive margin, active faulting, seismotectonics, seismic hazard, depth conversion
Abstract :
The action of compressive forces over a passive margin may provoke its inversion, developing new faulted structures as the lithosphere bends under the stress. This context and these objects may progressively evoluate through a subduction. Thus, inverted oceanic margins are precious case study for the understanding of subduction inception. The objective of this study is to use previously aquired and processed seismic reflexion data of the Algerian margin,in order to evaluate the structures related to the inversion of this young oceanic margin affected by the Eurasia/Africa convergence. The interpretation of major horizons along the seismic sections is completed using the programme Kingdom Suite©. Horizons and sections are then depth converted using fixed speed in-between horizons. This step intends to restore a more realistic geometry of the horizons in order to allow the quantification of the various structures of the margin. The major picked horizons cover the whole margin and are suitable for analyzing the strain pattern. These deformations are Thanks to these results, we quantify the elastic deformation of the margin and map the faulted structures visible at basement top. This last result which permits to reassess the calculation of the maximal magnitude for earthquakes affecting the margin.

Scientific Mediation
I manage a small youtube channel dedicated to scientific mediation (link on the left of the page). This allow me to work on my skills in :
- popularize a complex scientific subject to make it understandable to non-specialists
- create 2D and 3D diagrams
- do bibliographic research
Development of digital tools
| I have been working on numerous digital tooks along the years, for subject as varied as social games, video-game, or medical care. To develop these tools, I relied on pre-existing platforms, most notably TiddlyWiki and google sheet, practicing HTML, CSS and javascript programming. | Gaming |
On my free time I am a manager in a major french-speaking gaming guild. I am responsible of organizing in-game events, managing some parts of our internal communication, and managing our resources, both material and personnel. I also developed divers tools to suit our needs.
- managing a group, assigning task, planning schedules
- communication
- adaptability and innovation in service of an objective
Theory-crafting
A video-game is a set of mathematical rules. By analyzing them, making calculations and trying out new idea, one can increase its efficiency in a video-game, invent new ways of approaching its challenges, optimise its playtime. A theory-crafter is always on the look for this kind of optimization.
- calculation
- out of the box thinking
- development of tools
Drone piloting
I pilot drone on my leisure. This allowed me do acquire some experience in the manipulation of these machines.
